How Much Storage Does GTA 3 Browser Need? OPFS, Cache and RAM Explained

Two different storage costs

The browser version uses persistent storage and temporary runtime memory. The compressed archive can be saved in Origin Private File System (OPFS), while relevant game files are extracted into Emscripten's runtime filesystem for the current session. A cached archive staying on disk does not mean the same amount of RAM is permanently reserved.

OPFS archive cache

OPFS is private storage associated with the website origin. After a successful Download & Play operation, the archive can remain there so later visits skip the full network download. The exact size depends on the archive you use, so leave extra free disk space for browser metadata and temporary writes.

Runtime extraction and RAM

The current re3 build reads game data from an in-memory virtual filesystem. That means the browser needs memory for WebAssembly, extracted assets, textures, scripts and the WebGL renderer. A device can have enough disk space but still fail during extraction if memory pressure is too high.

Clearing site data

Browser privacy settings can remove OPFS files and local preferences. If that happens, the next Play Game action may need to download the archive again. Do not clear a healthy cache as the first response to every black-screen problem.

How much free space to keep

Keep substantially more free disk space than the compressed archive size, and avoid running the device with storage nearly full. For memory, 4 GB of total system RAM is more comfortable than 2 GB, but available memory matters more than the printed system total.

Storage checklist

Use a normal browser profile, allow persistent site data, close memory-heavy tabs and keep enough free storage. If the site reports an existing OPFS cache, reuse it instead of resetting it unnecessarily.
